I played basketball for 8 years and played at the varsity level at WLU and not once did anyone ask me when I was going to pick up a volleyball or kick a soccer ball or throw a pigskin. For some strange reason, ever since I started racing duathlons last year people ask me: “so when are you going to start the swim training (triathlon). Last time I checked, duathlon was a sport. It may not be the status quo, but I love it - I love running and I love cycling. Read the rest of this entry »

Take a peek! These point totals include Victoria (Waterloo), Milton, Muskoka and Guelph Lake.
Overall Points Standings
In order to win the overall series age group championship one must complete at least 5 races and at the end of the season have the most points. The top 15 finishers in each race receive points with some longer races giving more. For example, the Muskoka Long Course Duathlon had a maximum of 150 points available for 1st place.
My next race in the Subaru Series is the Peterborough 1/2 Ironman Duathlon (2km run; 90km ride and 21km run). This race has 150 points up for grabs.

This weekend I chose duathlon over road racing. It was either Guelph Lake 1 or the Kitchener Classic - I chose Guelph Lake. I figure that the best thing is to focus on one event and ‘du’ what comes naturally. I would have loved to do both because the Kitchener race suits my abilities.
It was also a good choice because I figure I am less likely to crash in a duathlon (knock on carbon) considering I am still healing from the Milford RR a couple of weekends ago. Read the rest of this entry »

Who would have thought that Lisa Bentley was waiting for me? Seriously though, she was there and I did get to meet her for the first time - so cool! Read the rest of this entry »

I set some goals this year; improve and enter races in the Subaru Duathlon Series, which sees stiffer competition than other series’.
The duathlon season has finally arrived (I’ve finally caught up to the bike). However, the weather has failed to cooperate! Read the rest of this entry »

The Toronto Crit was held May 30 in the heart of downtown Toronto. Despite six team members registering, only the brave Lithuanian contingent showed up to race. Julian and his little bro Tim showed up for the team flew the team flag in the 6pm race, and Julian rode an amazing race - basically 60+ minutes at or very near the front. I screamed at him a lot from the sidelines to do less work, but the kid is an ox, what are you going to do. In the end he finished a strong 7th. Tim didn’t fare quite so well, but gained more valuable experience in this, his first year of road racing.

Well, before I get too serious (not), another great race organized by the St. Catharines CC - thanks for that.
Now, on to the race report… since the Giro is on right now I thought it best to imagine what a Giro rider would say about Sunday’s wet, cold slog up and down the escarpment. I think it would go something like this: Read the rest of this entry »
